The 圆4 will be uploaded to the x86 server. Select only the 圆4 architecture and browse to find your driver. Open \\PrintServerName\Printers in Windows Explorer. Log on a Vista computer (using an account with sufficient privilege to access the server!).
Install the x86 driver directly on the server. You have a Windows Server 2003 running on a x86 processor and Windows Vista clients running on a 圆4 processor. You then need to open the "Printers" share on your print server from that other computer and add the driver in the server properties. The driver for the other architecture must be installed from a computer using that same architecture. The driver for the architecture of the server can be installed the usual way. The print server must have both x86 and 圆4 drivers to be able to serve them to clients. there is a number of things we believe are causing the 0x7e error, as listed above. While we havent yet found a definate fix, we are actively seeking the issue. We are aiming to replace all printers that do not support UPD to avoid driver issues and reduce admin time. i know the HP3600 does not use the UPD, as it has it's own driver package. updated to the 5.3.1 UPD drivers (HP) for the printers that allow this. admin side speed seems 10 times better, we're yet to have user experiences on this though printer settings also appear to be alot quicker. adding new drivers are from 10-15mins, to 30seconds.
we've built a new print server (from 2008sp1, to 2008r2) that appears to be a whole lot better interacting with the print service. to soon to tell if this has fixed, but it SEEMS to of reduced the rate of occurance.
we changed the drivers on 2008r2 to 'isolated' mode (not sure if 2003 allows this). restarting the spooler service on the 2008r2 server allows the user to add the printer. We're testing a few things to try and eliminate the issue, so far this is what we've found: the error occurs on the RDS server when users try to add the printer.
We too have this issue, but it's on a 2008r2 server (RDS), and a 2008 print server.
